:: cracking eggshells ::

I like giving lil man natural things to play with. So, after our scrambled egg breakfast I washed the eggshells and set them on the high chair tray. I thought this might be an interesting fine motor/sensory experience. Lil man (13 months) uses a booster chair now so the high chair has become his designated play station. Easier for clean up. 

I originally took video of this activity but he was in nothing but a saggy diaper next to a garbage bag on the deck waiting to be put in the trash can. He played really well cracking the eggs into tiny little pieces until he got distracted by some unplugged electrical chords. Watching that was just wrong on so many levels.

:: taking time to explore the rain ::

I love the rain. I don't want it to go away. There is so much to learn about when it rains. Here are a few things that come to the top of my head:

We don't stay inside just because it's sprinkling outside. My little guy is so active he gets pretty upset if he is cooped up indoors for too long.

Here are some photos of my 11-month-old's first experience in the rain:

He didn't wander too far from the sliding door because he was a little unsure of this new phenomenon. But it only took a few minutes for him to decide that he liked it. This was his first experience in the rain, so I didn't try to add to it, I just sat back and let him enjoy and explore, while I enjoyed him.

I created this blog because I wanted to share with you my child's educational adventures. I am not a stay at home mom, and my child is not home-schooled, but I do believe as a parent, you are your child's best and most important teacher.

A little bit about me

I hold a MA in Early Childhood Education and a BS in Geology.  I've taught preschool for 4 years, two of which were heavily influenced by the project approach and were Reggio Emilia inspired. I've been fortunate enough to travel to Italy on a study tour of Reggio Emilia, and am by no means an expert on the subject.

I believe in play-based learning and that it is our job as parents to nurture our children's joyful disposition toward learning.
